Karen's Top Ten Male/Female Friendships

This is Part 1 of a three-part Top Ten (or Top 30, I guess) list celebrating friendship.

Notes- 1.) I avoided relationships that had ship teasing to the point of being annoying. Your Mileage May Vary, obviously. The test for me was if the friendship worked without the Will-They-Won't-They, and also if they were friends longer than they were a couple.

2.) I also avoided siblings, as I'll probably address those in a future list.

3.) I'm limiting myself to one real-life example per list.

4.) There are no pics of clips because it's too much trouble and I don't wanna take up my sister's computer for too long.

10.) Marlin and Dory, Finding Nemo
(Voiced by Albert Brooks and Ellen Degeneres)
Dory: "Please don't go away. Please? No one's ever stuck with me for so long before."
A friend/surrogate child is the last thing Marlin wants when his son has just been kidnapped, but exactly what he needs. In addition to acutally be very helpul in finding Nemo, Dory provides comfort and encouragement, and helps Marlin face his issues. By the end of their long journey, they're both stronger and wiser for having found each other (and Nemo).

9.) Maxwell Glick and Becki Kregoski, MaxterBexter
Max: "It's Max."
Becki: "And Becki."
Max: "And this...is our show."

Oh, MaxterBexter. Max and Becki met on the set of lonelygirl15, where they played BFFs Taylor and Spencer and charmed everyone with their obvious chemistry. After that, they decided to create their own show, MaxterBexter, where they explored Los Angeles (usually Ventura), and had fun, and ate. A lot. And were always hilarious and adorable.

8.) Harry Potter and Hermione Granger, Harry Potter
(Series by J.K. Rowling)
"There are some things you can't share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them."
No matter what you think about Harry and Hermione as a ship, there's no denying that the two of them had a strong friendship throughout the series. As they matured and the Wizarding World became more and more dangerous, nothing could keep them from standing by each other through thick and thin, right to the end.

7.) Dr. Drakken and Shego, Kim Possible
(Voiced by John DiMaggio and Nicole Sullivan)
Drakken: "Um, hello, Shego, Dr. Drakken. I hope you're having a nice vacation. Uh, when you get the chance, could you get up here to the North Pole, and save me?! Please!"
Shego and Dr. Drakken have an...interesting relationship. It's kind of an ongoing case of "You don't know what you've got until it's gone." On a day-to-day basis, they argue with, insult, and disrespect each other, but kidnap one of them and see if you don't get your ass kicked. Deep down- way deep down- these two really care about each other, whether they want to admit it or not.

6.) Melinda Sordino and Dave Patrakis (Her Lab Partner), Speak
(Novel by Laurie Halse Anderson)
Melinda: "Do you lecture all your friends like this?"
Dave: "Only the ones I like."

When we meet Melinda Sordino, she's friendless, but over the course of the story, there are two things that bring her out of her shell: art class, and Dave Patrakis, her lab partner. (That's almost his official name: Dave Patrakis My Lab Partner.) Through a party invitation, small acts of kindness and helping Melinda stand up for herself, Dave eventually becomes one of Melinda's few friends.

5.) Harry Burns and Sally Albright, When Harry Met Sally...
(Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan)
Sally: "Well, I guess we're not going to be friends, then."
Harry: "Guess not."

Who says men and women can't be friends? Oh, that's right. Him. Well, they manage anyway, after an interesting first (and second) impression, through complete (sometimes painful) honesty. Like another pair on this list, they end up getting married, but not before proving Harry wrong with a friendship that lasts for years.
(This is part of my plan to have When Harry Met Sally on every one of my Top Ten lists. This could get interesting when we get to Top Ten Whose Line Moments.)

4.) Albus Dumbledore and Minerva McGonagall, Harry Potter
(Series by J.K. Rowling)
Dumbledore: "I will only truly have left this school when none here are loyal to me."
Hogwarts was never better than with these two at the helm. McGonagall was completely loyal to Dumbledore when he was Headmaster, even through the more challenging times. Through mutual trust and respect, these two had a partnership that led their school through good times and really, really bad ones.

3.) Bree Avery and Daniel, lonelygirl15
(Jessica Rose and Yousef Abu-Taleb)
Bree: "Daniel, I want you to know how much your friendship means to me and always meant to me. In my mind, you're way more than just my friend...You're more like my most favorite best in the world brother, and I love you forever and ever and ever."
It all started with these two. The best videos in the series are about Bree and Daniel's friendship- Swimming, Grillz, The Human Ransom, Christmas Surprise. The series was at its best when they were having fun in Bree's room, working together against the Order, or Proving Science Wrong. Even as they often got fed up with each other, Bree and Daniel would always do anything to help and protect each other.

2.) Kim Possible and Ron Stoppable, Kim Possible
(Voiced by Christy Carlson Romano and Will Friedle)
Kim: "Ron, I couldn't save the world without you."
There's nothing like saving the world on a regular basis to keep a friendship strong. Kim and Ron met in Kindergarten and stayed together through high school, mind-control experiments, time warps, moving to other countries, and even puberty, finally entering a romantic relationship in the movie So The Drama that lasted through the final season. It worked because it was based on years of honesty, affection, and complete loyalty.

1.) Veronica Mars and Wallace Fennel, Veronica Mars
(Kristen Bell and Percy Daggs III)
Veronica: "Can you do me a weird favor without asking any questions?"
Wallace: "Isn't that the bedrock upon which our friendship was founded?"

Technically, it was founded on Veronica saving Wallace from prolonged public humiliation, but weird favors is a close second. Wallace and Veronica meet early in the first episode, and, except for a small rough period in the second season, stick together through the end. Although Veronica can be a horrible friend at times, often lying and manipulating people to get her way, she definitely had her moments ("Betty and Veronica" and "Normal Is The Watchword" especially). Whenever she needed a friend, Wallace is there for her, and vice versa. They were second only to Keith and Veronica as my favorite relationship on the show.

This is just my opinion, of course. Please comment with your own opinion and tell me why I'm wrong!
